PHILOSOPHY
The administration and faculty of Saint Cornelius Catholic School recognizes that it shares with the family the educational mission of the Church. We endeavor to build a total faith community based on the gospel challenge of dedication to love, freedom, and social justice.  It is our hope that each student will feel accepted, develop a realistic self-image, learn according to God-given ability and grow in awareness of the needs of others within the local, national and global community.

SPIRITUAL GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Goal - To encourage our students to develop a relationship with God, and to love and respect one another. We aim to help our students recognize Catholic Christian values, their dignity, uniqueness, and potential within the church community.

Objectives - We attempt to achieve these goals by:
Providing opportunities for our students' spiritual formation through prayer, liturgies, integrated religious instruction, and Christian service. Modeling courtesy, generosity, sharing, and love through mutual respect and acceptance of others. Directing our students to accept the consequences of their own moral decisions.

INTELLECTUAL GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Goals - To challenge each student to grow according to his/her intellectual ability, to inspire a self-motivated desire for knowledge, and to provide students with the necessary academic skills to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

Objectives - We attempt to achieve these goals by:
Using methods of instruction that will motivate students to acquire basic skills needed to read, communicate, compute, study, think critically and solve problems.  Providing positive reinforcement to encourage achievement.  Assigning age-appropriate homework to reinforce skills taught in class. Scheduling field trips and assemblies, which enhance classroom curriculum. Facilitating the academic needs of students through the use of aides and tutors, both on-staff, and through parish volunteers.

PHYSICAL GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Goals - To strive to develop basic principles of health, physical fitness, nutrition, safety and good sportsmanship within the curricular programs. We encourage a sense of responsibility, self-worth, and self-assurance.

Objectives - We attempt to achieve these goals by:
Providing a well-planned and organized physical education program so that all students can participate in a variety of physical activities. Providing a good health program which provides vision, audio, weight, height, scoliosis screening and encourages good hygiene, personal care and proper nutrition. Offering a variety of extra-curricular sports and activities. Teaching the value of responsibility and team spirit through good sportsmanship and fostering desirable social and emotional behavior in athletic events and recreational activities.

SOCIAL GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Goals - To help each student experience school as a supportive Catholic community where all will accept love, and interact in a Christian manner. We strive to develop the student's self-esteem and respect emphasizing the self- worth and uniqueness of each individual. We work together to foster acceptance of everyone, regardless of differences in personality, appearance, ability, and ethnic background. We encourage the students to appreciate friendships, to cooperate with others and to be an integral member of their homes, parishes, and communities.

Objectives - We attempt to achieve these goals by:
Celebrating cultural diversity through classroom activities. Encouraging students to develop a respect for each other in their interpersonal relationship.  Encouraging leadership skills, responsibilities, and Christian service through participating in school, parish, and community activities. Leading students to be responsible and capable citizens of the community.

PSYCHOLOGICAL GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Goals - To create a nurturing environment in which each child is recognized as a unique individual, with strengths, talents, and limitations - a gift of God.

Objectives - We attempt to achieve these goals by:
Encouraging students to express ideas, thoughts, and opinions, in an open and honest manner. Providing varied means of expression through art, drama, music, creative writing, and discussion. Enhancing the critical thinking skills of students across the curriculum through the use of textbook series, simulation exercises, comparative studies, and cross-curricular projects.  Promoting and supporting the psychological and emotional needs of both students and their parent through on-campus support groups.
